Is Your Work Guaranteed?
It is important to ask how you will be protected in the event of workmanship problems. If the crew you hire completely botches the job, and are not properly insured, you could end up holding a rather unpleasant bag. If a prospective installer cannot answer this question to your satisfaction, move on and keep looking. It's just not worth the risk!
Are Your Workers Covered By Worker's Compensation Insurance?
Many people think this is something that they don't have to worry about, because it falls on the contractor to provide the coverage, but this isn't always so. Many states have laws on the books that state that if a worker is injured on your property performing a service for you, and they are not covered by worker's comp, you will be responsible for lost wages and medical bills. Ouch!
Never, skip this question and never do business with an outfit that doesn't cover their workers. You could regret it otherwise!
Can you Provide Examples of Your Work?
The best way to judge whether a prospective installer, is to view examples of previous carpet installations they have performed. At the very least, they should be able to provide photos of their work, but it's even better if you can inspect the work in person, so you can more effectively keep an eye out for signs of improper work. If you aren't confident enough in your knowledge of what to look for, you should bring along a friend who is.
