What is SPC flooring and why do you need it?
This is one of several types of waterproof flooring, sometimes referred to as SPC rigid core. It's another version of luxury vinyl, engineered to be thicker, more durable, dent-resistant, and constructed with the technologically advanced SPC (stone plastic composite) core. There are several types of waterproof floors, as you’ll see when you shop for waterproof floors in Houston, but SPC offers the highest level of waterproof protection.
SPC...in detail
An SPC core is dense, firm, and rigid, giving the surface an authentic feeling of wood or stone. It's excellent for both residential use and commercial applications. Ideal for use in kitchens and baths, it's also stylish enough for any room in the house and can stand up to the heaviest wear in offices, restaurants, factories, etc.
The SPC core will never peel or ripple, no matter how much water there is or for how long. It's also waterproof from top to bottom, meaning that it can be spilled on or submerged without any damage.
The counterpart is WPC (wood plastic composite) and, although both cores offer the same level of protection, the difference is in the feeling underfoot. While SPC is firm and rigid, WPC is semi-rigid, warm and flexible like a resilient flooring, like vinyl.
What’s engineered luxury vinyl?
Luxury vinyl (LVF) is a newer version of the original product, being layered five times thicker, so you can imagine just how thick it becomes when it's engineered!
It has the same style and features as LVF, with images of wood, stone, and tile taken with high-definition photography. Micro beveling and embossing add depth, dimension, and textured looks such as wire-brushed, hand scraped, weathered, and distressed.
Like LVF, it's layered, and on top is a clear, strong melamine wear layer that protects the floor from scratches, scuffs, and wear and is low maintenance, requiring only a regular sweeping and periodic mopping. Installation, too, is easy, especially when it's a floating floor where the pieces click, mat, and hover over a subfloor without glue (nails aren't recommended).
